Guitar & Vocals
Brian has always had a passion for making music… making everyone around him crazy, even as a little kid singing “You Are My Sunshine” to his mom. At 16, he decided to learn how to play guitar (so that he could have something to sing along with) and started by teaching himself and after about 8 months, moved on to lessons from a great teacher who taught him how to teach himself. Everywhere he went for the next several years, you could find him with his acoustic guitar somewhere singing.
For many years, Brian played for church on the worship team, but was looking for more of a musical challenge. Finally, in 2015, he joined a buddy’s band, Fat Bottom Groove, where he met his future Hard Times counterpart, Frank Chrisman. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out with FBG as personalities and musical styles began to clash. Dejected but hopeful (and at his wife’s suggestion), Brian put an ad on Craigslist… “Experienced Guitarist Looking for Classic Rock Band.” Two days into the ad, he was contacted by Bruce from Hard Times, which was on a bit of a break after losing their previous guitarists. They set up a time to audition and everyone came out of it pretty geeked about the possibilities. Knowing they were still wanting another guitarist, and also knowing how well he had gotten along with Frank during his time with FBG, Brian contacted him and the rest is history!
Brian loves to collect guitars and has now started the hobby of building them (or at least assembling them) as well. He plays a variety of different brands and styles… just because! (see them here)
“I just can’t tell you how happy I am to be a part of Hard Times… what a great group of guys! We have a LOT of fun together, but we also work hard to make sure we bring a great show. It’s awesome, there are no divas (except Garry, but that’s expected from the “eye candy”), and we all agree on how things get done. There’s a chemistry here that I believe comes out in our show, making this band truly something special!“
I also cannot let this opportunity pass to give a big thumbs-up to my wife, Renee, who believes in me and offers her support which makes it easy for me to be a part of this band… my biggest fan, my best friend… thanks Babe, you’re the BEST!”
